This month marked Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 — the day the right to vote was formally extended to women across the country, after decades of organizing, sacrifice, and refusal to be quiet.
I think about that history often in my work, because the through-line hasn’t really changed. Every woman I’ve worked with who has built something meaningful — a business, a book, a new chapter of her life — has had to move through some version of the same resistance: the voice that says stay smaller, stay quieter, wait for permission that no one is actually going to hand you.
That resistance doesn’t disappear just because the right to vote was won over a century ago. It shows up in smaller, quieter ways now — in the dream you don’t mention at dinner, the idea you downplay in a meeting, the goal you keep private so no one can see you fail at it. Claiming your voice is still an act of courage, even when it looks like nothing more dramatic than finally saying what you want out loud.
