Realize Your Dream in 30 Minutes a Day

You have a dream of writing a book, traveling the world, running a marathon, enjoying an extraordinary retirement, losing those 20 pounds or something equally audacious. Think about it, what is that niggling idea that keeps popping up in your head? Big goals can seem overwhelming, and many things can get in the way. What if you could realize that vision in just thirty minutes a day?

See yourself already in possession of your goal. Your book is on the shelf in bookstores; you are proudly holding the book in your hands and are truly grateful for all the help you have received. Really get into it. Smell the book, feel the pages, hear what others are saying. You have brought a part of yourself out into the world. Believe it with your whole heart! Get specific with envisioning your goal. Write a letter to yourself from the future self and describe exactly how it feels to be in possession of your goal. Know that you have accomplished your goal. Go ahead and try this for your goal.

Next, give yourself a timeline. It must be challenging but not overwhelming. Let’s say your vision requires five years. Break it down to the goals you want to accomplish this year. Perhaps it means that you write the glowing description of your book on the back cover and list each chapter of your book. You could identify and research the countries you want to visit. If running a marathon is your dream, you could download a plan or join a marathon training group.

In the next 90 days, what will you do to get closer to your dream? Book writers could draft 6 chapters of their book. Write down the name of each chapter by the month you plan to complete it. Run 20 miles a week, if a marathon is your goal. Decide how you will keep track of your progress, so you know whether you are winning or losing. Make it a game! Track minutes writing or miles run.

What will you do next month towards your goal? Next week? Today? What is something you can do daily to accomplish your goal? Write for 30 minutes or run 30 minutes a day. Along the way, create desire and build belief by continuing to visualize your success. Give yourself a reward for incremental progress. I give myself a chocolate chip cookie. You are on the way to realizing your dream!
